BOWHILL Rovers have had a fantastic season winning Kingdom Caledonian league championship trophy for the second time in three years.

This was also Rovers' opportunity win the very last Kingdom Caledonian League Championship before the merger of the KCAFA and FAFA.

Bowhill went into their last game with Leven playing their tenth game in 22 days, also their fourth league game in 7 days, having won the previous three league games against Lumphinnans (4-1), Aberdour (3-1) & Greig Park Rangers (4-0).

Victory over Leven Utd would see Bowhill finish one point ahead of Aberdour in the title race. It would also see a fantastic run in the league of 12 straight wins in a row, where their last league defeat came on September 17 2016.

A large crowd travelled to Premier Park, Leven, to watch this title decider, the game started at quite a fierce pace, both teams taking a bit of time to settle. Bowhill seemed to then settle into the game first, creating a few chances along the way, it was then from a set piece, put in from McGuire which saw Eastough rise above the Leven defence at the back post to header the ball back across goal for striker Sami Mitchell to slot the ball home from close range. As the half went on Bowhill were certainly up for it, pushing for a second goal, and strikers Leslie and Mitchell missed two great chances as the half went on, then Leven were reduced to ten men just before the break when their full back was shown a second yellow card.

Bowhill started the second half as they finished the first, on the front foot. It wasn’t long before they doubled their lead when striker Jamie Leslie pounced to slot the ball low into the Leven net. Bowhill now really had their tails up knowing the championship trophy was in sight, and not long after they added a third, again through some great play, Leslie slotted home his second of the game, to put Bowhill three goals up. It was substitute Darren Aitken who broke through on goal and lobbed the outcoming goalkeeper to put Bowhill 4-0 up with only ten minutes left. The only sour note was in the last five minutes Bowhill full back David McLaren suffered a broken leg. Once the game got restarted, Bowhill saw the game out and became Kingdom Caledonian League champions 2016/17. A wonderful achievement from the club and well deserved.

After the game the game manager Jim McGuinness said “It has been a fantastic season for the club, but due to our Scottish Cup and domestic cup runs we were playing catch up and had to win all of our last 12 league games to take the title. "We would like to thank the village for the support we have had this season."

Chairman Jim Hastie also added: “I am so proud of the players and the management team and would like to thank them all for the hard work put in throughout this campaign; it really has been a season that everyone at Bowhill Rovers should be proud off and one that will be remembered for a long time to come”

Bowhill Rovers Team in the final game was: D.Wotherspoon, D.McLaren, S.Eastough, B.Greive, S.Donaldson, C.Patterson, C.McGuire, J.Gay, D.Thomson, S.Mitchell, J.Leslie.
