IN the league at Inverkeithing on Wednesday night, rearranged Cowdenbeath BC teams did not perform as well as expected with Robert McFarlane's rink keeping it close till the end but needed a bowl onto a bowl shot to get the four required. They lost by five, writes Jack High.

Paul Jamieson's rink were well beaten and Andy Johnstone's rink were three up playing the last. Ryan Cunningham played a great bowl to make a three to draw the game.

Paul Jamieson played in the semi-final of the Fife Singles on Thursday at Inverkeithing against St Clair, Kirkcaldy. He was never in trouble and caught the rink fairly quickly and won 21-11.

The final is at Methilhill on July 1 against the Methilhill entry.

On Friday, West Fife ties went well with only Billy Allan losing out 21-17 to Ali McIntyre from Dalgety Bay on a very bumpy Aberdour rink.

In the triples John Allan, Willie Wightman and Paul Jamieson were at Inverkeithing and had a very convincing 23-4 win. In the fours, Alan Leishman, Peter Graham, Andy Johnstone and Robert McFarlane's rink won 18-10 against Dunfermline at Dunfermline Northern green.

In the senior fours, Derek Easson's rink of George Beattie, Davie McKay and Lindsay Black played Dunfermline Northern at Kelty. In a difficult game, they won 18-12.

On Saturday four rinks of gentlemen visited Lenzie for the annual friendly and competition for the 'Pew Cup'. Hard to believe that there were two rinks up and two down resulting in four points each.

The scores were, apparently, irrelevant and the away goals rule was enforced resulting in the tradition that the visitors take away the trophy. A great day with good friends in beautiful sunshine. No better way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

On Sunday, George Beattie, Davie McKay, Lindsay Black and Derek Easson played in the district finals of the Scottish senior fours.

Townhill was lightning quick and Abbeyview caught it better at the start as well as getting a couple of good breaks. They were 10-3 ahead, although Lindsay and Derek kept it tight.

George and Davie came on to a better game the second half of the game and they kept plugging away and got back to one down playing the last.

George threw a bowl about two inches away, which put the pressure on Abbeyview.

Derek drew a second with his first bowl and despite Davie Young's last bowl effort it landed outside Derek's for Cowdenbeath to win 12-11. All four had played very well to reach the final and did just enough to sneak through to the finals at Ayr at the end of July.

On Monday night at Abbeyview, having beaten a very strong Inverkeithing triple in the semi-final, Peter Graham, Steven Hunter and Robert McFarlane played really well and defeated Kirkclady West End 18-11 with an end to play.

The heads had all been very tight with all three bowlers contributing well. A great effort and achievement – particularly for Peter and Steven, who have never previously qualified. Peter lost at this stage two years ago in the rink.

Robert has qualified whilst playing at Nethertown but this is his first time with Cowdenbeath.

On the next rink, Willie Wightman, Lindsay Black, Mitch Drysdale and Andy Johnstone played the local Abbeyview rink.

They obviously had local knowledge and caught the pace very quickly. Andy Johnstone, in particular, played some telling bowls to keep the game tight. Abbeyview seemed to be getting the right side of everything they tried and went four shots up.

With about four ends to go Cowdenbeath picked up a five to go 12-11 up. They lost a two the next end then Andy Johnstone tried to push a short bowl onto the jack to convert the head. He had changed and improved so many heads in the game, but unfortunately, he was an inch high and removed a couple of Cowdenbeath bowls and lost a five. Abbeyview held on to qualify for Ayr. Disappointed for the guys.

The ladies play their district final at Lochore this Saturday.
