COWDENBEATH hurdles star Jack Lawrie added another title to his collection as he continues to set his sights on the Gold Coast.

The talented 20-year-old is hopeful of qualifying for next year's Commonwealth Games and the 400 metre hurdler did has chances no harm by winning gold at the Scottish Athletics National Relay Championships.

The event took place at Grangemouth on April 22, combined with the Scottish University and Colleges Track and Field Championships, and Lawrie was in fine form in the 4x400m event.

Teaming up with his Pitreavie AAC club-mates Ben Grant, Craig Moriarty and Taylor Roy, the experienced former Beath High School pupil ran the anchor leg as the quartet powered to the gold medal.

Lawrie's latest track success comes as he aims to make the plane to represent Team Scotland at the 2018 Games in Australia.

He set a 400m hurdles personal best of 50.85 seconds last year but will need to duck under the 50 second mark if he is to attain selection.

Lawrie however is confident that winter work will pay off in times this summer, and has his eyes on success at the European under-23 and British National championships.

Previously he said: "The main events for me would be the European under-23s, and then qualification for the Commonwealth Games off the back of that, hopefully.

"The qualifying time for the Commies is 50 seconds. I definitely feel confident I can get there, but it is a big ask. You're starting to get into a really high level of running but I'm fairly confident I'll hit that.

"Being selected for the Commies would be great. It would make all the cold nights at the track, all the hours you and everybody else puts in to support you, worth it - it would be a great sense of achievement."
