A COWDENBEATH trained boxer is travelling to Dundee to prove a point as he steps into the ring for a third time in the city's biggest ever fight night.

Dale Meikle will face Nicky Beveridge in a 75kg bout at the first ever United Combat Championship on June 24, an event set to showcase the best MMA fighters, boxers and kickboxers in Dundee and Fife.

The pair are no strangers to each other as they have sparred together in the past, but Meikle revealed "a wee bit of bad blood" between the two has led to the prize fight.

Despite being undefeated in his first two showings during his first year, the 23-year-old, who trains at Goliath Kickboxing & MMA in Cowdenbeath, knows he's the underdog as he squares up to the more experienced Beveridge who has 20 fights to his name.

Meikle, who is coached by Steven Harris, said: "He's a tough guy and a bit of a brawler, but I know exactly what he's going to do. I have the height advantage, with my reach and jab being my key strengths. I'm going in there to box smart and dominate the fight."

"I want to prove a point. I've always been the underdog in my fights so far and this is no different. The training has been tough, but I want to prove to myself that I do belong here and that I can do this before venturing into MMA."

Standard tickets are available for £25 in advance or £35 on the door.
