BENARTY football star Lucy Graham has been rewarded for her fine form at club level with a call-up to Scotland's senior squad.

The talented midfielder will hope to win her first cap after being named in Anna Signuel's 19-player pool for Tuesday's friendly international in Belgium as the women's team continue their preparations for this summer's European Championship finals.

Graham, who plays her football for Hibernian Ladies in the Scottish Women's Premier League, has been selected alongside her former Hibees team-mate, Dunfermline-born Liverpool star Caroline Weir, and joins the squad today (Wednesday) for a training camp at Oriam, Scotland's national performance centre for sport at Heriot-Watt University.

The 20-year-old is one of three uncapped players in the squad, with the others being Celtic defender Kelly Clark and Glasgow City goalkeeper Lee Alexander.

Four players, including captain and number one Gemma Fay with a staggering 197, have made more than a century of Scotland appearances and while there is plenty of experience in her squad, Signuel wants youngsters like Graham to take their chance.

She said: "Belgium are a good side who we watched at the Cyprus Cup and they are close to us in the rankings, so it’s another test for us and allows us to try some new things.

"It is unfortunate to see so many players unavailable through injury but some of them are just precautionary as there is a hectic couple of months coming up.

"It is a chance for some of the younger players to come to the fore and stake their claim."

Graham, who was named as Benarty's Young Citizen of the Year in February (pictured, front right), has made significant progress in her fledgling career since starting to play football at primary school.

She turned out for Dunfermline Girls until she was 14 before moving to Forfar Farmington, where she spent two seasons before signing for Hibs.

After 12 months playing for Swedish team Mallbackens in 2015, she returned to the Leith club and has gone on to win the Scottish Cup and League Cup.

Having represented her country at various youth levels, Graham captained the under-19s and won 16 caps, scoring five goals in the process.

The friendly against Belgium in Leuven will be Scotland's latest test ahead of their first-ever major tournament appearance at women's senior level this year.

The Euros, which will be held in the Netherlands, kick off on July 16 and the Scots will open their campaign against England in Utrecht three days later.

They will also play Spain and Portugal.
