ATHLETES from Beath have experienced great success at Scottish level over the last couple of years and this continued at the Scottish Schools Indoor Championships.

Taylor Roy defended his over 16 year-old boy’s hurdles title with a commanding display in the final in what will be his last Indoor Championship prior to the end of his school career.

Bethany McAndrew, the Scottish outdoor hurdles champion at over 16 level, was also competing in her last competition and came away with a silver medal, after a photo finish.

The future remains bright with Cameron Keelan winning the silver medal in the under 16 boy’s hurdles competition after another photo finish and Louise Conway, competing in her first Scottish School competition recorded a personal best time as she progressed to the semi-finals, narrowly missing out on a place in the final despite conceding several years to her opponents.

Taylor and Bethany also recently took part in the Scottish Age Group Indoor Athletics Championships at Emirates Arena Glasgow.

Both were competing in the hurdles and both came home with a medal. Taylor won Gold in the u-20 60m hurdles - a fantastic achievement at his age and Bethany won bronze in the u-20 age group for the 60m hurdles- being only 17 that is a great achievement also.

Well done to both athletes!

The pupils now turn their attention to the outdoor season and the Fife and Scottish School competitions where further success is sure to follow.
