HILL OF Beath Hawthorn have received a legacy following the death of loyal fan and "real gentleman" John Duffy.

Locals raised £750 at his funeral and the funds have now been donated to his beloved football team.

John, or Jock as he was better known, died suddenly in September 2016 at the age of 62 but the legacy to the club means his memory will live on in the community.

A dedicated volunteer for nearly 40 years, helping at the Keirs Park ground as well as supporting the committee, Jock became an honorary member of the club and never missed a home game.

Although a busy dad to Stuart and Erin, and grandad to Emma and Sophie, he still gave up his spare time at the Cowdenbeath branch of Barnardo’s as a helper several days each week.

Jock was also a regular at Wee Jimmies and Hill of Beath Club, usually the first and last on the dance floor each weekend!

Married to Anne Morris in 1976, the pair were well known faces to many around the area, with her work as a nursery nurse at St Bride’s and Cowdenbeath primary schools making her a household name, until she passed away, aged just 44, in 2001.

A family member, who thanked the people of Hill of Beath and Cowdenbeath for the "fantastic community support shown to us", said: "At a small private ceremony to scatter Jock’s ashes on the turf at Hill of Beath at the weekend, he was fondly remembered by close friends and family as a real gentleman, always willing to lend a helping hand or get stuck in when others needed him.

"Friends from far and near have been posting on social media about Jock and the lasting impression he leaves with them.

"The passion and determination needed to follow his favourite football team through the past 40 years will be a lasting testament to a great man."
