ASPIRING young footballers at Kelty Primary have hit the net with new kit thanks to the efforts of a parent and local businesses.

Scott McDonald, who has two children at the school, approached staff with the offer of helping them source new strips for the football and team and brought three village companies on board to help.

North Road Garage, Atlantic Embroidery and The Art Centre, as well as Councillor Alex Campbell, backed Scott's efforts that have resulted in the pupils looking smart in new strips, hooded tops and waterproof jackets.

Depute headteacher, Colin Lyle, said: "We were approached by Scott at the start of the year because he wanted to give something back to the school. It is 12 years since we had new kit, which is down to cost, so this is a welcome change and it gives the children an extra reason have their heads held high.

"Mr McDonald's wife also won an Arnold Clark competition to help us with the hooded tops. He has donated a trophy and we would like to start a new, indoor five-a-side tournament at the community centre, and to say thank you to Scott and the local businesses.

"It is a fantastic display of community spirit."
