BEING out of action on Saturday saw Cowdenbeath lose a bit of ground on one club in the race to get away from the danger area.

But with three games beating the cold weather the stats show that bottom of Ladbrokes League 2 Cowdenbeath are just six points off fourth place with a game in hand.

So the ball is very much in the Blues’ own hands at present and putting together a string of results has to be top of manager Liam Fox’s agenda.

Cowden still are bottom but a win at Links Park this Saturday over Montrose would start to nudge them in the right direction.

The Edinburgh City game looked to be certain to go ahead on Friday but a temperature of minus 6 overnight saw some hard patches form on the pitch and a referee’s inspection at 10am saw the match put in the tank.

It is now likely to go ahead on a Tuesday night next month.

Montrose also saw their match postponed but Stirling Albion recorded a good result by drawing 1-1 with league leaders Forfar at Station Park to move three ahead of the Blues, but Berwick Rangers were beaten 4-1 at Arbroath leaving them two ahead of Cowdenbeath also with a game more played.

So there is nothing really in it but Cowden have to start putting together some wins starting at Montrose this weekend.

Mr Fox fixed up two new players and they would have featured against City had the game been on in the shape of centre-half Scott Rumsby, from Peterhead, and midfielder Liam Henderson from Falkirk, on loan.

The manager is desperately aware of the need to put together a run of results: “Each game is of prime importance but we have to take them one at a time and we have to look to beat Montrose this weekend.

“We have to look to accumulate points to get away from the danger area and when that is achieved then we can think about the next stage.

“Montrose have had some good results under their new manager Stewart Petrie but we have managed some very positive performances in recent weeks but winning only one game, so we have to ensure that we grind out some three point hauls.”

Rumsby’s arrival will boslter the defence while while Henderson will augment the midfield resources.

Definitely in the starting line-up at Links Park will be Fraser Mullen, back from suspension, and he will join up with Kyle Miller and Brian Ross.

Meanwhile at the end of the week the club announced that Nikolay Todorov had been recalled by Hearts and Aaron Murrell was not being retained while Chris Turner had been released.

A win at Links would take Cowden above Montrose and possibly another two sides so it is indeed a vital fixture
