THE SPFL Trust has launched Legacy 2014 report and reveals 30,596 people engaged across Scotland as part of £500,000 funding provided by the Scottish Government via the Scottish League Cup and Cowden were very much involved

The biggest ever single community programme engagement in Scottish football history saw 40 clubs participate – including all Ladbrokes Premiership teams

Delivery cost of just £16.34 per person demonstrates value for money and exceptional reach of football in Scotland.

Cowdenbeath’s project involved delivery of a range of initiatives including: delivery of after school football sessions followed by evening football skills sessions; the Cowdenbeath Football Fans in Training (FFIT) team successfully completed the programme together losing a combined weight of 51kg, and managed to reduce their combined waistline by 87.5cm (34.5 inches).

The club put six of its Modern Apprentices through the first stages of coaching qualifications each of whom assisted with the delivery of the schools programme; 2 Community Coaches are now in place and are delivering initiatives including running Sportsworks Job Clubs to assist local people finding jobs.

The Scottish Professional Football League Trust (SPFL Trust) has revealed that 30,596 people across Scotland have been engaged through a Legacy 2014 and Scottish League Cup funding programme with the Scottish Government.

Club director Tom Ewing said Cowdenbeath is proud to have been a part of this record-breaking project, delivering the aforementioned series of initiatives.

As a result of the funding Cowdenbeath FC was able to engage 444 local people in the 5 to 12 and the 36 to 65 age ranges. This has been an exciting step forward as the club continues to build its community activities.

Tom Ewing, Community & Youth Director at Cowdenbeath FC said: "The club has used the funding to build a community programme virtually from scratch!"

In total, 40 clubs – including all Ladbrokes Premiership clubs - participated in delivering life-changing activity relevant to the needs of the community in which they are based.

Nicky Reid, General Manager at the SPFL Trust commented: “The impact as demonstrated in this Legacy 2014 report has been incredible and we are so very proud of the part that Cowdenbeath FC has played in its undoubted success. Scottish football has once again shown its remarkable capacity to engage hard to reach groups, by using the power of each club’s reach within the communities in which they are supported."
