AT Cowdenbeath Bowling Club the outside honours are over as we move to the closing month of the season, but internally, ties are progressing well with a few finals played this week, writes Jack High.

Scott Brown, Alan Leishman and Mitch Drysdale beat George Beattie, Chris Adamson and Robert McFarlane in the final of the nomination triples.

The game was tight throughout except for one end where Mitch turned the jack for a six. That difference was maintained to the end in a very entertaining final.

Emma Connor beat Barbara McMillan in the final of the ladies' President's Prize after Barbara got off to a great start, leading 13-7.

Emma caught it a bit better after that and went on to win 21-15.

In the G B Sinclair trophy (for male members who have not previously won a singles trophy at Cowdenbeath) Robert Oliver got off to a brilliant start against James Watson scoring two early 4's and leading 13-2.

Jim got to grips with the pace and improved steadily but basically ran out of time as Robert reached 21 when Jim was on 17.

Jim had staved off the winning shot for four ends. Good experience - but Robert will not be allowed to defend his title...

The mixed pairs final was between Barbara and Eric McMillan who took on Mary McKay and Andy Johnstone.

This was also a close encounter with the game tied at 2, 4, 6 and 7 before Mary and Andy scored a 4 and a three in consecutive ends.

They maintained that difference and eventually scored a three at the penultimate end to go 10 up. A good victory and they will represent the club in the Scottish mixed pairs next season.

On Saturday Cowdenbeath entertained Lumphinnans in their annual friendly.

The scores were as follows with Cowdenbeath skips first, E McMillan 11 J Cowan 11, R Reekie 11 G Fleming 11, Darren Leitch 15 J Thomson 15 and L Black 21 K Salmon 6. Total of 58-43 (Obviously Lindsay didn't read the script about it being a draw).

On Sunday the Cowdenbeath touring club attended Gallatown, Kirkcaldy, for a fundraising day.

There were two draws, two wins by four and a defeat by 5.

The teams were made up from players at Broad Street, Nethertown, Abbeyview, Cowdenbeath and a few 'guests'. A good day was had by all.

This year's championship will be played between Paul Jamieson and Alan Leishman on a day to be confirmed.
