THERE was no weekend off for Cowdenbeath's players despite the international with Malta as manager Liam Fox bids to tighten up the Blues' defence before they head for Montrose on Saturday.

Three points from four games is not the sort of start Mr Fox wanted to the Ladbrokes League 2 promotion campaign but he is not panicking.

As he observed this week scoring six goals in the club's two away games and returning home with no points says it all about where the problems lie.

He was very disappointed not to get a result at Clyde in the last game before the break but he is desperate for his team to start defending more effectively.

The manager said, as he sets his plans for the key match at Links Park on Saturday: "To have scored six goals in two away games and returned with nothing is simply unbelievable.

"We have been making key errors a key times and lost our grip of the two matches.

"The fact though, is that we need to start collecting wins regularly, starting with this weekend, for our aim is to be up their challenging for promotion."

Describing some of the defending by his team as 'criminal' he had his men in on Saturday to continue to work on improving the defensive aspects of their game.

And he plans to have centre-half Gerry McLauchlan back ready for action against the Gable Endies after a rib injury which has ruled him out for a month.

Added Mr Fox: "Losing experienced defenders like Gerry and Kenny Adamson have been blows but we still should be defending a lot better as a team.

"We have shown in matches at Forfar and Clyde how going forward we have a lot of creativety and firepower and we need to keep that aspect of our game developing.

"There is no panic but I have told the players that I simply expect better from them."

There were a number of knocks sustained against Clyde but everyone, barring Kenny Adamson should be fit for the game.

Midfielder Chris Turner has a foot knock but will be fit but it looks as if Adamson is going to need surgery to sort out his back problem which has plagued him since the pre-season.
