KELTY Hearts edged out senior neighbours Dunfermline to win their own pre-season tournament at New Central Park on Sunday.

Thomas Courts' junior big guns clinched the honours in the four-team competition, which also featured Cowdenbeath's under-20s and Dundonald Bluebell, by beating a young Pars side 2-0 in the final thanks to goals from Brian Ritchie and Scott Dalziel.

The two-day event was held ahead of the official opening of the revamped New Central Park against Hearts last night (Tuesday) and Dunfermline's under-20s kicked off proceedings on Saturday with a comfortable 5-1 win over Bluebell.

Stevie Kay's Moorside team found themselves 4-0 down after 32 minutes against the Pars thanks to a Scott Mayne own goal, a double from James Thomas and Callum Smith and, although Scott Morrison pulled one back before the break, another OG from Craig Waugh in the second half completed the scoring.

The Blue Brazil's youngsters then faced the hosts to decide who would make Sunday's final but the 2015 Super League champions' experience told as they romped to a 6-1 victory.

Archie Campbell put Kelty ahead and a double from new signing Jack Wilson put them three goals to the good, before Jack Parr got on the scoresheet for Cowden before half-time.

Two more from Campbell to complete his treble and a solitary strike from Stephen Husband handed the Jambos a 6-1 victory and a place in the final, before which Cowdenbeath won the third/fourth place match 4-1 against Bluebell.

Kelty boss Courts said: "We've attended the Dundonald tournament over the last few years and, since they couldn't hold it this year, we thought it was something we'd like to do. It meant we could give something back to Dundonald as well as establish links with teams like Cowdenbeath and Dunfermline; we've held talks with Dunfermline about them partnering with us to use the pitch for under-20s games. It is important that we open our doors to become that type of community club, and hopefully everyone enjoyed themselves at the weekend.

"It is difficult to judge the weekend games because, although they were two good teams, they don't have the same physicality or experience. They were good tests and different challenges so I was pleased with our performances, and winning is a good habit to get into."

Courts, who has sold Callum Smith to Bo'ness United, will take his team north to Brora Rangers on Saturday for a friendly. They then host Kilbirnie Ladeside and participate in the annual Gareth Blackadder tournament at Lumphinnans before their Super League opener at champions Bonnyrigg on August 6.
