Cowdenbeath's latest summer signing is in the boardroom with former Pars boss Jimmy Calderwood coming to Central Park as a director.

As a player in Holland he used to man mark the great Johann Cruyff and he went on to manage Willem II and NEC Nijmegen before a successful spell at Dunfermline.

Calderwood also bossed Aberdeen, Kilmarnock and Ross County and Cowdenbeath chairman Donald Findlay said: "‘Jimmy brings a real wealth of football knowledge and experience to Central Park.

"He knows the game inside out and I am very pleased that we are able to augment the board in this way as we strive to work our way back up the leagues.

"I am sure all our fans will give Jimmy a very warm greeting."

Born in Govan, Calderwood started his professional career with Birmingham City in 1971.  He made 159 appearances for the club, playing alongside such players as Kenny Burns and Trevor Francis.

He was capped by Scotland at under 23 level and in 1979 had a short loan spell at Cambridge United before moving to the Netherlands and playing for Sparta Rotterdam, Willem II Tilburg, Roda JC and Heracles Almelo over the next decade.

Calderwood moved into coaching and had roles with FC Zwolle, Cambuur Leeuwarden, Willem II and NEC Nijmegen.

In 1999, he came home to Scotland as manager of Dunfermline. Jimmy Nicholl became his assistant and the pair formed an enduring partnership.

He took the Pars to the 2004 Scottish Cup final and back into Europe for the first time in 35 years.

In 2004, he replaced Steve Paterson as Aberdeen manager. He left Pittodrie in May 2009 and after short stints at Kilmarnock and Ross County, he returned to the Netherlands with Go Ahead Eagles.

He was appointed manager of De Graafschap in January 2014 but soon left the club after the sale of two key players before the start of the season.
