Ladbrokes League One

ANOTHER bleak away day for Cowdenbeath and it added up to the Blues having mustered only six points from their 10 away matches this term.

Two wins and nine defeats is certainly a poor return on the road and if there is to be any hopes of making an impression on making the top four they have to finish the season much better away from Central Park.

It was a much changed Cowden team with the central midfield area completely revamped and only Dean Brett held his place.

Jack Beaumont made his first start for the Blue Brazil, at New Broomfield on Saturday, as did Kieran Gibbons, on loan from Aberdeen, with Declan Hughes and Lewis Milne being omitted.

Declan McDaid replaced the injured Liam Callaghan but this new midfield did not really make a big impact on the game.

Yes they kept Cowden in the game but never really threatened to create a lot of quality chances.

Cowdenbeath wanted to start the game well but they lost a goal in only 14 minutes.

The ball was switched into the Cowden box by an Alan Lithgow throw and a lay-off by Jim Lister created space for Marc FITZPATRICK and his left foot shot crept wide of Grant Adam.

The game was a bit scrappy and neither side really produced much in the way of good play but it was the home side who created a couple of decent chances.

Cowden did have a chance in 37 minutes when Ross Caldwell fired in a right foot shot which was blocked by some good defensive work.

And in the run up to the half-time both sides had good goes at goal with Kenny Adamson firing over the bar for Cowdenbeath while Jamie Bain saw his drive saved by Adam.

Aridrie started the second period brightly and Fitzpatrick’s shot brought Adam into action and then Bain and Liam Watt came close for them.

On the hour Brad Dondaldson was replaced by Craig Johnston as Cowden re-shuffled things and for a spell Cowden had the bulk of the ball and a McDaid effort was saved by Parry. Pat Scullion also saw his shot blocked.

The closing minutes became frantic as Cowden battled for an equaliser and Airdrie defended in numbers and the key moment came with only a minute to go.

In a break no visiting defender was able to stop LISTER who cut inside and the ball was blasted into the net from outside the box by the striker to tie up the points.
