FIFE duo Eileen Roe and Rab Wardell led the way with winning performances during an exciting day of wheel to wheel action at Lochore Meadows on Sunday.

More than 200 riders converged on the country park for round five of the Ridley Scottish Cyclocross series, hosted by Sandy Wallace Cycles and Kinross Cycling Club, with Dunfermline ace Wardell and High Valleyfield's Roe the pick of a talented and muddy field.

Orange Monkey Pro Team rider Wardell (29) claimed his fourth win in five rounds of the series, crossing the line 14 seconds ahead of Mark Maguire, while David Lines (Starley Primal) also made the podium after finishing 1.52 seconds behind Wardell in third.

Wardell's success followed his victory at the same venue in August when it hosted a round of the Scottish Cross-Country MTB Series and he was joined at the top of the podium by Commonwealth Games road race star Roe, who was the fastest female by finishing 34 seconds ahead of Jane Barr (Velocity 44).

Other noteable performances came from Gary McRae of Leslie Bike Shop, who was best in the veterans 40-49 race, club-mate Conner Johnstone, who was the fastest under-16 boy, and Carnegie Cyclones' Anna Birrell, who pedalled to glory in the under-8 girls race.
