YOUNG Cowdenbeath darts thrower Liam Mitchell produced some great stuff in the World Cup in Turkey.

The Wee Jimmies player was very prominent in a successful Scotland venture.

Although finishing third in his Youths' Singles group, the two players who qualified from his group reached the semi-finals.

Liam teamed up with Rebecca Graham, in the Mixed Youths Pairs, and after winning their group were narrowly beaten in the last 16.

The highlight of his week was to come in the Boys' Youths Doubles when he played with Craig Johnston (Angus).

They reached the semi- finals where they were beaten by the eventual Champions from the Netherlands.

Liam and Craig were winning 2-0 but unfortunately could not get over the finishing line eventually losing out in a thrilling tie.

They took the Bronze medal for their brave effort, a thoroughly deserved achievement.

The Scotland Youths finished 7th overall out of 16 countries.

Liam was delighted to be involved in such a high profile event and commented: "It was really exciting and I would like to thank all the local players for their messages of support throughout the World Cup".

The Scotland Men finished a creditable 3rd out of 36. England Men's won the title whilst Wales were second.

Steve Ritchie was beaten in the last 16 of the Men's Singles and Scotland and Fife Captain Ross Montgomery was runner-up in the Singles.

Ross and Lakeside World Professional Qualifier Alan Soutar were beaten in the Men'Pairs semi-finals .

Scotland Ladies, including ex-Silver Birch player Lynn Cowan finished 7th overall out of 29 teams. Kate Smith lost in the quarter-finals of the women's singles .
