Cowdenbeath 3, Brechin City 0.

Ladbrokes League One Attendance-386.

AN excellent result for Cowden which increased their top four credentials.

The Blue Brazil scored early, and although they had a few difficult moments, defended well and were worthy winners.

While he did not have a lot to do, ‘keeper Jamie Sneddon pulled off two excellent saves at key times in the second-half to keep his side in front.

This inspired the Blues to go on to make it five home games unbeaten by adding two more goals in the last quarter of the match at Central Park on Saturday.

The defence played superbly throughout while the midfield unit were particularly effective in the second period to take the game to Brechin who faded badly.

Kyle Miller and Andy Murdoch again ensured a good supply of passed to wide players Liam Callaghan and Dean Brett and they put over a series of pin-point crosses.

Cowden got off to a great start with a goal in ten minutes from the penalty spot. Callaghan’s curling free-kick struck Darren Dods’ hand, with Gordon Smith lurking at the back post, and the ref rushed to the spot. Up stepped BRETT to made an expert job of the penalty award.

As Cowden pressed, 13 minutes later Kenny Adamson’s 20 yard right foot shot was saved by Graeme Smith.

City responded with a good move which saw Isaac Layne fire in an 18 yard shot which Pat Scullion deflected for a corner, then Paul McLean fired a header just wide.

As City kept looking for a way back into the game Layne saw his fierce 16 yarder blocked by a brave Scullion challenge before Layne was only inches away from reaching a low McLean cross.

Cowden had to settle for the single goal lead at the break but in the second minute of the second period Miller’s 25 yarder took a deflection off Ross Perry and went inches wide.

Then Spence made a great run into the City box and his low shot was blocked by a fine Perry tackle.

But at the other end, in 56 minutes, it took a fine save from Sneddon to keep the Fifers ahead after David Bates got in a fierce shot.

Then Sneddon was the home hero again when he got his hand to an Andy Jackson close-in flick.

At the the other end a Murdoch cross set up Miller and his shot was blocked by Dods.

But in 75 minutes Cowden got number two. Sam Orritt’s corner was perfect for Pat Scullion to flick on and Ali EL ZUBAIDI headed home from close in.

Then four minutes later Craig Johnston’s pass set up Callaghan and his shot came back off the bar but with seconds left Johnston fed Spence and from close in he tapped in number three.
