THAT was indeed a terrible thing to hit a great facility in Cardenden when the fire caused considerable damage to the sauna area last weekend.
I think the Bowhill Pool will be celebrating its 50th birthday soon and it was a facility that had the mining community to thank for coming to fruition.
The CISWO organisation, I believe, played a part in the pool being built and it is something which has been a big facility in the Cardenden area for every one of the past five decades.
I noticed Councillor Ian Chisholm airing his concern about the future of the pool in last week’s Times.
Well I can see where he is coming from. This is a time where council based organisations like the Sports and Leisure Trust can be looking to free up cash by shutting facilities which maybe have problems.
Now I am not suggesting that they might have ideas that because the Bowhill Pool has been fire hit that this could be the way ahead for it but it is only right that Councillor Chisholm should suggest that there has to be a bit of concern.
It would be catastrophic for the Cardenden area if we were to see this happen because make no mistake you just never know what could occur if the Trust were to lose the will to keep it open so Councillor Chisholm is right to have his worries.
BLAZER, Cardenden.
