THE exciting plans to build a wind farm near Lochore Meadows Country Park will probably put some of the anti turbine brigade into a real spin.

But the thing is that having looked at proposals lodged by the developers this could be by far and away the best proposals yet for a wind turbine set-up in the county.

Not only is it only for six turbines there seem to be a lot of good advantages for the communities surrounding the wind farm.

Kelty, Lochgelly and Benarty are set to be among the main benefactors if this gets the go-ahead.

The most interesting aspect looks to be the community ownership of one of the turbines which could see a steady flow of money towards community projects.

Now I am not sure how exactly this mechanism would operate but I do not know it would be something which could be a big winner for whatever communities choose to go with the idea.

There are aspects of the proposals which are also pro the countryside with ideas, I believe, about creating a wildlife area around each turbine which would be something completely different from the likes of Little Raith.

Obviously there will be drawbacks with any such plan but this sort of progressive wind farm idea could be something which could bring a lot of benefits to the district.

On top of that the developers are very keen to create a new Kelty end entrance to the country park which is something which has been lacking for many, many years.

There really is not much of a Kelty entrance to this big visitor attraction so this would be another plus from the development of such a project.

So it will be interesting to see what the general public think about the proposals. Yes there will be worries about a wind farm near a country park but the all the advantages coming to the area from the total project could be something worth grabbing.

But not doubt the negative ‘spin’ doctors will be moving into full swing over the next few weeks.

TURBINE FAN, Crosshill.
