HOW nice it was to read in the Times about the success of the young Kelty and Blairadam Pipe Band.
The people who have spent so much time re-establishing the band deserve the utmost credit for this. And the efforts of the young players themselves are worthy a lot of praise.
This success story has to be one of the really good results of the investment by the Cowdenbeath Area Committee in piping teaching in local primary schools.
It has given so many youngsters the chance to try piping and both Beath High and Lochgelly High schools are seeing talented players coming through their doors each year. It means that a tradition that dates back to the days of the mining industry is being maintained and hopefully bands like Kelty and Blairadam will continue to flourish.
With the success of the Benarty Pipe Band competition also very much there piping and drumming seems to be alive and well.
PIPING HOT, Kelty.
