WITH Fife Council still busily trying to ensure that their future budgets will be able to show big savings it is perhaps no surprise that library service funding through the Fife Cultural Trust has come under review.

At a recent meeting of Cowdenbeath Area Committee the success of local libraries was reported to and welcomed by councillors.

But clearly the village libraries at the Corrie Centre in Cardenden and Crossgates were bound to come under the eye of officials trying to make savings.

By the nature of them, these two libraries will not be as busy as the likes of the Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly facilities and that is bound to see pressure mount.

But the fact is that these facilities are warmly welcomed by villagers in Crossgates and Dundonald and are used would be missed.

Maybe one or both may get a reprieve, only time will tell.
