THE fact that many businesses on Cowdenbeath High Street have suffered a drop in trade due to the ongoing resurfacing work on the main road through the town is something that was predicted by traders.

There is no doubt that money will be lost to the local economy during the six week project but hopefully this is only a temporary situation.

However, you can see why some of the business community are concerned that people who may be giving the town a body swerve during the work, could find other places to get services they have obtained in Cowdenbeath for many years.

There has been some suggestions that the Fife Council could give the Cowdenbeath business community a business rate holiday for a month as some sort of compensation for losing trade while the roadworks take place.

It is a nice idea but one would imagine that the council would say to the suggestion that a re-surfacing project is bound to pose one or two problems during its progress up the High Street but it will be pain worth suffering once a lovely new roadway is provided.

Hopefully the loss of takings will only be something that is very very temporary, but the fact is that it is bound to cause worry to businneses suffering loss of revenue.
