THERE is certainly a need for more rented accommodation in the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area.

The figures released by MSP Alex Rowley in the Times suggests that there are 900 people looking for rented accommodation from the council and housing association sector.

That is an astounding figure and does really spell out why more social housing is required to tackle the subject.

With the problems being caused by the Bedroom Tax it is clear that this situation is being made worse by the dreaded tax which is continuing to plague many local families.

If there were more social housing facilities available then people could swap homes to get something which fits their needs but under the current volume of homes available, that simply cannot happen.

Hopefully over the next couple of years the council and housing associations will be able to build more homes and that will make a difference.

If not then this is going to become an issue which will hit at the fabric of our communities which cannot be desired.

Hopefully Mr Rowley will be successful with his moves and there will be more social housing provided to take the pressure off the waiting lists.

HOMER, Lochore.
