THE Street Pastors scheme will be officially launched today (Friday) and it should be something which is welcomed throughout the area.

It is a mechanism which has worked well in other parts of the county and there is no reason why it cannot work in the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area.

It is all about caring people who are prepared to give up their own time to offer help to anyone who needs it on say a Friday or Saturday night.

It is not about the volunteers offering preaching in any way to people in the streets. It is about a listening air being made available if people need advice on any subject, or just some help to find their way home.

The fact that local churches are behind the idea shows that members of congregations are prepared to volunteer during ‘unsocial hours’ to help others and without doubt it will be something that more than a few will end up warmly thanking.

The CLoCk team will be looking for volunteers to assist the Street Pastors initiative and if anyone wants to get involved they will be warmly welcomed.
