I’M at a loss to understand the point made by Jim Paterson, of Kassy’s Kitchen, in his letter to the Times last week.

He notes that Brunton House and the Town House were closed and implies that no public toilet facilities were available over the weekend.

As readers of the Times will know there is a range of publicly accessible toilet provision which includes Brunton House but not the Town House.

For the record, there was weekend provision at Cowdenbeath Leisure Centre, which was open until 9.45pm on Friday; from 8am to 7pm on Saturday and 8am to 6.30pm on Sunday.

In addition Cowdenbeath Library was open till 7pm on Friday and from 9.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday. Both are sign-posted as having publicly accessible toilets by street signs and on their entrance doors.

Equally, I am sure that visitors will have been able to avail themselves of facilities at Central Park and within the many bars, cafes and catering establishments in the town.

To my knowledge the Council has never been approached by the owners and management of either Cowdenbeath Racewall or the Cowdenbeath Football Club to extend opening hours of other facilities when large numbers of visitors to the town are expected. I, along with other Council Officers, would be happy to work with them to see how we better meet the needs of fans of both sports.

Finally, there is no reason for people to use backyards and alley ways and any such activity witnessed should be reported to the police.
