THE establishment of a Cowdenbeath Food Bank seems now only a matter of a short time away.

When the Crosshill Centre Benarty facility, John Drylie, the man who spearheaded the setting up of the highly used Dunfermline Food Bank almost two years ago, said that the Cowdenbeath Area needed one, for the West Fife based unit had dealt with up to 300 visits from the town and Kelty.

The continued pressures being applied by such issues as the bedroom tax still poses problems for some family budgets and being able to get enough food can be a real problem for many.

Certainly the usage of the Crosshill Centre based food bank, which is basically catering for Lochgelly, Cardenden and Benarty, has shown that there is a requirement for the facility.

In Benarty around 30 people came forward to volunteer to run the food bank and a similar number will be needed to make the Cowdenbeath facility work.

John Drylie is always available to offer advice and support so hopefully the Cowdenbeath community will embrace the idea.
