A HUGE thank-you to everybody who helped make the Benarty Gala on Sunday 29th June such a great success.

The parade left Benarty Primary School led by Lochgelly High School Pipe Band, The Tower House Samba Band, Fiona Ferguson Highland Dance School, W O T T Dance Group and Cobblers the Clown in his infamous car. The Co-operative provided limousines to transport our Citizens of the Year to the Park and numerous members of the public also joined the parade.

The Gala Boxes were distributed by the wonderful Goodie Bag Ladies and then it was off to the entertainment for the kids. Again all the entertainment was free for the whole afternoon for everybody who had a ticket.

The bouncy castles, climbing walls, bucking bronco, racing cars, chair o’planes and teacup roundabout were never empty and the Body Zorbs proved very popular. Thanks also to John and Norma Gilfillan who organised and run all the races, they were a huge hit and enjoyed by young and old alike.

Our resident DJ, Ronnie Mackie, kept everything going as usual with his music and introduced all the entertainment in the ring. The displays by the Bands and Dance Groups were first class and much appreciated by the huge crowd who attended.

Special thanks to the Meadows staff for all that they do to make it possible for us to host this important annual event in the Meadows Country Park. Thanks also went to the volunteers from the Events Group, Gala Sub Group and Benarty Fundraisers for helping to keep everything running smoothly. We would also like to thank everybody who sold gala tickets on our behalf.

None of this would be possible without the funding and sponsorship we receive from Fife Council and local businesses and organisations. We would like to thank them all most sincerely for their continued support.

Finally, our thanks goes to all the people who come along every year - both locals and those who have moved away from the area but come back especially for this day. Thank you for making it such a spectacular day.

STEPHEN NARDONE, Benarty Gala Sub Group.
