THE Cowdenbeath Area Committee’s move to take their highly successful Midnight Football idea to two of the area’s largest villages should be applauded.

For a modest cost the youth diversion mechanism, which has worked very well in Cowdenbeath and Lochgelly, will be expanded into Cardenden and Kelty. Before people start to worry about late night activity the Midnight name is just that a term. The sessions at Beath High and Lochgelly High community use facilities last for a couple of hours and are actually in mid evening. But the important thing about this is that it gives youngsters, boys and girls, something positive to do on a Friday night rather than hang about the streets. In the two towns the activities have attracted up to 50 young people to each base and the youngsters have been enjoying not only playing football but learning new skills under qualified coaches.

It is a venture which offers youngsters a lot more than better fitness activities and to take it to Kelty and Cardenden will be a big attraction, without doubt.
