THE new idea of care for the elderly in the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area seems to be a very radical modern one.

Fife Council are right to be thinking ahead, for both Jenny Gray House and Valley House are getting on in years and while the facilities still allow staff to offer a first class service for senior citizens, the time for change clearly has arrived.

The care village idea for the site at Sycamore Crescent and Cedar Crescent, in Lumphinnans, on the face of it is a good one and will give the Cowden-Gelly area a 21st century facility.

How the new idea works on the ground will take time to develop but the public should go to Lumphinnans Community Primary School on Thursday and find out how things are designed to work.

The days of care homes and sheltered housing have not been forgotten completely for this new facility appears to merge the methodology of these systems on one site and creating a small community for senior citizens.

If the Lumphinnans and Glenrothes care village plans, which are being flagged up this week, are successful then these will appear in other parts of the Kingdom and it will be good that this area is in the vanguard of the new system.
