IT has been several months since local councillor Willie Clarke and the Benarty Community Council announced at a heated public meeting that Kevin Payne had purchased the land adjacent to Lochore Institute, where he planned to build houses on the proposed site.

It was stated that the war memorial was to be relocated to another site, and if another site could not be found the memorial would be placed in a council yard.

I have recently been informed that it is planned to erect a memorial in memory of Peter Johnstone, at Glencraig, for one soldier who played for Glencraig Celtic football team.

What happens to all of the other brave soldiers who have lost their lives? Lest we forget!

Would it not be best served by the community to honour and commemorate all of the fallen of war, not just one soldier?

Glencraig would be the ideal place to honour all of the casualties of war, past and present.

Benarty is one of the only areas in Fife not to have a fitting tribute with all of the fallen people’s names mentioned for those who have gladly given their lives for us to live in peace. I feel, quite strongly, that the public have their say on the matter and be kept fully informed regarding the plans for our area.

GRAVE CONCERN, Benarty.

The Peter Johnstone Memorial Garden is being organised by the Ballingry Celtic Supporters Club in memory of the Glencraig man who fought in the war and played for Glasgow Celtic and Glencraig Celtic. The Ed.
