WITH reference to last week’s story in the paper ‘Hero To Be Honoured In His Home Village Of Glencraig’, its a really nice gesture but I am struggling to figure out why?

Peter Johnstone did not fight the war alone, many of his colleagues died and I am sure it would be more fitting to honour all of the people within the area who perished in the war.

It was not so long ago that Willie Clarke and Benarty Community Council organised a public meeting requesting the removal of the cenotaph for relocation to another site.

I am perplexed as to how they can find a site to honour a little unknown soldier yet the same people cannot find a site to relocate the local cenotaph.

I am utterly disgusted at their lack of respect to the rest of the soldiers who lost their lives. Do they not deserve to be recognised for their heroics? After all they gave us the life that we live today.

ANNOYED, Benarty.

The Peter Johnstone Memorial Garden is being organised by the Ballingry Celtic Supporters Club in memory of the Glencraig man who fought in the war and played for Glasgow Celtic and Glencraig Celtic. The Ed.
