THE so-called bedroom tax issue continues to pose problems for many local people and families.

A key element in the Welfare Reforms brought in by the Conservative/Lib dem Coalition Government, has, in a year, posed a lot of problems.

The tax, which basically cuts housing benefit for a tenant who has one or more extra bedrooms in their home, has been softened somewhat by moves from the Scottish Government and Fife Council, but still many local people are feeling the effects of the legislation.

Money is being made available to help people but there has been concerns as to how it is being challenged.

A recent decision by a judge which outlined that a bedroom can only be a bedroom if it is being used as such has assisted people who use their extra room for a variety of reasons other than it being a bedroom.

But still people have found it difficult to square the circle and probably until the legislation is removed from the statute book there will be problems.

People have still the problems caused by it to live with and that is here for some time to come.
