Don't let the vandals win

I was most unhappy to hear of the activities of vandals at Dallas Doyle Park, in Ballingry.

This has been a superb facility in the village for many years and provides a home for local amateur side Benarty AFC and Ballingry Rovers Colts who encourage people to enjoy playing football.

But what we see here is unsavoury individuals or groups who seem hell bent on destruction no matter what. I can recall damage being caused at the ground in the autumn but it seemed to calm down for a spell, but a couple of weekends ago things started again with damage happening.

Pulling down the gate to the park is mindless enough but breaking bottles and then putting the broken bits of glass over the playing surface is really the end.

Now the committee people at the clubs will do their utmost to clear the glass off the pitch before games take place but it will not be easy to gather each little fragment.

The fact is that these small pieces of glass can cause a very serious injury to an unfortunate player. It is my bet that the people who have carried out these acts of vandalism will have no real knowledge of what they have been doing because before they have carried out their acts of wanton vandalism they will have been on fortified wine or wacky baccy.

Hopefully the police will get the information they need to tackle this problem because we do not want to see Dallas Doyle Park put out of action.

That would be a disaster for sport in the Ballingry area and would let the vandals win.

DALLAS DOYLE, Ballingry.
