It has been most encouraging to see all the work being done by people of all ages in the area in support of Haiti.
That Carribean community will take years to overcome the wreckage of the devastating earthquake but in the short term there is still a lot that can be done.
People on the island need simple things like tents and water containers to stay alive, basically, and while the big Governments have been doing their utmost, small organisations have been doing a great deal on the ground thanks to public support.
So it has been great to read about children at local schools raising money through all sorts of activities to help the cause.
At Lumphinnans Primary, for instance the youngsters there raised £200 while £1400 was realised at Beath High School and Hill of Beath and Benarty primaries have been doing their bit.
Then the local Rotary Club has also been involved having sent one shelter box unit themselves and having a public collection to fund a second unit.
These boxes contain things like tents and water containers and also stoves and eating utensils so they are very useful in disaster zones like Haiti.
It is great to see people of all ages in the area doing their bit to support the unfortunate people of Haiti and hopefully no one will forget the island as the days and months pass.
HAITI, Lochgelly.
