It would seem that the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area is now the target for supermarket companies.
A couple of weeks ago we heard about two possible developments in Lochgelly and then last week the interest in developing a store at Cowdenbeath's North End Park.
And before these latest developments there were tales about Tesco being interested in a move into the district.
Now it is true to say that since the closure of Kwik Save some years back that Somerfield (now Morrison's) has had a clear run in the area.
Now that is not good for competition, to say the least, and maybe it is no surprise that there are companies interested in providing that competition.
The Vico Properties project is certainly a wide ranging one and it would certainly bring lots of gain to the district.
While the new store would occupy the current football pitch at North End Park the plans would see a new sports complex developed in Lumphinnans.
The plans, as described in the Times, would see a new full size pitch created to add what is already present in Lumphinnans along with clubhouse and training facilities.
It would certainly be a boon for under-age and amateur football and the proposals would also cement the future of the Kingdom Brass Band.
So the area will have a lot of gain from such a move but will the planners back the proposal.
The planners' welcome for the Lochgelly proposals has been somewhat muted but then there is no 'football hub' at the centre of these plans.
It is pretty likely that the people of Cowdenbeath will back the Vico plan but then it will be down to the Cowdenbeath Area Committee to back that groundswell of public support.
SUPER STORE, Cowdenbeath.
