Not the elderly to blame

A couple of weeks ago someone wrote in about the Disgruntled Postman saying a lot of people who didn't clear their paths were elderly but I'd like to point out to this person that it was mostly the older people who cleared their paths.
As a retired police officer who likes to walk around the town I know it is the younger people who are too lazy to clear paths, they never think about the postman who is out in all weather be it rain or snow, so please think again.
I can remember the days when people even cleared part of the pavement but these days are long gone.
I think it would be a good idea to get those on the dole to help clear the pavements around the town, after all why shouldn't they do something to pay for their dole money instead of doing nothing.
I know a lot in this town who have no intention of working but they can still get their cigarettes, go to bingo and even drive cars, how do they manage it on the dole?
Some even repair cars for extra money, I know them and time is catching up for some of them so I'm sure a few hours a day wouldn't do them any harm.
After all the country doesn't owe them anything, it's the other way round.
WD, Retired police officer.
