Building is blot on the landscape

It looks as if another building has fallen foul of our Lochs councillors Alex Rowley and Willie Clarke.

For some time they have had their eye on the former Meedies Neuk structure in Crosshill but now the old Co-op building in Kelty's Cocklaw Street is under the microscope.

Certainly the picture in the Times of 11th February suggested that this is a blight on the landscape of Kelty.The councillors talked of tiles falling off the roof of the structure and parts of it appearing to be sinking.

Now that is certainly not the sort of building that we want to see on the main entrance to any of our local communities.

The Lochs representatives also talk about it being unacceptable that developers can leave buildings to rot while they await the best time to redevelop a site. Now that is a good point.

Presumably the owner of the former Co-op store is waiting for the best time to get a good return on the site.

However, meanwhile the building will continue to deteriorate and begin to look worse and worse.

At the end of the day the building control people will be more interested in the safety of the building than how it looks.If it becomes dangerous they will act but if it does not then it will just be left to suffer the effects of the rigours of time.

I would certainly say that it would be a lot better for Kelty if this building was pulled down sooner rather than later.
