Time to grasp the nettle and go for independence

Unionists never tire of telling us Scots that to return to Independence would be a disaster for us.

They tell us our country is too small and our economy is too weak and of course we do not have the leaders to guide and inspire us.

Well it may have escaped their notice but its usually Scots who occupy the leading positions in the UK. Why is this?

It seems Scots have a reputation for integrity and fair dealing and for dealing with economies.

Scotland is potentially at least quite a rich country. We have valuable mineral resources including a gold mine in Perthshire. We also have large reserves of natural gas and oil.

Our land is fertile and produces much of our food.

The proportion of population to land area in Scotland is just about right, I believe, unlike England where over population is becoming a problem.

To suggest that a nation which has at times been among world leaders in scientific research, in medical research, and education, while Scottish inventors have brought many advantages, has no leaders is wrong.

We do have the leadership and valuable assets so what are we waiting for?

The American colonists were no doubt subjected to scare stories about the dangers of Independence.

But the Yanks decided to go for Independence and went on to become one of the world's great nations.
