I hope that plenty of people took up the local police's invitation to attend the meetings in each of the communities of our area.
The meetings were part of the police force's policy of engagement with communities with one held in each town or village.
Now the idea of the meetings, I believe, was to find out what are the major problems in a particular community so that this can be addressed.
The various community officers attending the meetings were to take on board the concerns of the public and deal with these.
This could be a good thing these meetings. I believe they are being held on a monthly basis so that the pressing worries can be dealt with.
Community Inspector Ken Stickings certainly thinks so. In your issue of 28th January he was reported as saying that local police personnel are committed to tackling real local issues on behalf of the people of the community.
No doubt many people will still complain about anti-social behaviour problems mostly caused by young people who drink too much cheap booze.
If the authorities were able to stop the cheap alcohol getting out onto the streets then a major problem could be averted.
Most of these kids who cause the problems are simply high on alcohol and otherwise would not think about causing bother.
