Lochs councillors Willie Clarke and Alex Rowley are quite right to be furious over the failure of street lights in Benarty.
The situation in Ballingry where five streets were either all out or partially out is quite amazing. Is there something wrong with the cabling in the township or is it subsidence which is causing the problem!
For so many lights to go out in one community is bizarre to say the least, but then we have the explanation for Eldersknowe was that it was a repeating fault which needed to be eliminated.
The councillors were clearly unhappy with Scottish Power who they feel have not been tackling the situation with any great haste.
Now under their terms of reference I believe that the power company have to visit a complaint within five working days. It is not a case of having to complete the repair within that timescale.
That being the case it is no surprise that it takes some days to get street lights back into service.
Mind you it appears the new lights in Lochgelly and Lumphinnans are working well with the quality of light being praised by a member of the Lumphinnans Community Council.
Now, maybe the new lights are the answer, the problem is that a lot of areas will have to wait a long time before they get new lampstandards.
All the public can do is continue to report faults and await to see if it will be repaired. Not a handy thing in the long nights of mid winter.
