With bins not emptied and roads and pavements an absolute disgrace during the freeze, could someone from Fife Council explain to us what they do with our Council Tax money.

I have heard that most of the gritting work has been contracted out to private companies. Would someone from Fife Council please confirm or deny this.

If it is true, that would explain why gritters are going round our streets and no grit is coming out of their machines, as their sole objective is to make as much profit as possible, thus they will use as little grit as they can get away with.

Considering the snow was with us for a week and a half plus over the holiday period, Fife Council needs to get their act together and make the streets safe enough for everyone to walk without having to worry about falling and suffering any kind of injury. It is time we got value for money from the council.

Finally, could the local councillor who, according to information provided by a lady in the Regeneration Office, was supposed to have a surgery on 19th December in the Regeneration Office, explain to me why he didn't bother to turn up as I made the effort four times to try and see him only to find the door locked on each occasion.

R McKINLAY,

Lochgelly.
