I have never been interested in politics or Parties, but I am interested and concerned with people and the quality of their lives. After reading Fife Council's decision about the Pit Road toilets, I was appalled.
My God. their quotes: would, could, will not are. We need that facility now, the present, not future tense. What on earth do they think folk have done for over one year.
For well over one year now, I have talked to many elderly, disabled, stroke victims, and many more.
They are all victims to illness or age, or circumstances, disabled etc. All who needed, note past tense, these toilets.
Most can't make it to leisure centre. But mostly they are too embarrassed.
Many folk of a certain age had standards, pride, and this is an affront to them. To ask? To have to ask at these so called 'comfort break areas' would be unthinkable, that is provided anyone knew where they were.
Yes, Fife Council suggest the library and the leisure centre but they obviously don't have relatives who live here, who have to use these facilities.
Don't they realise that since the toilets temporarily closed there are some people who do not get their weekly, or twice weekly, visit down the High Street. You, the Council, are not taking away toilets, you are taking and sacrificing people's way of life.
I have just finished a DVD and a lovely song on it would sum it all up.
It is called 'The Town I Loved So Well'. Few lines in it go, "For what is done is done; What is won is won? But what is lost, is lost and gone for ever.
"My God, what have they done; We did not have a say; We will not forget; Those that bruised and broke us. I can only pray, for a different way; In the Town I once loved so well."
The toilets are not yet 'done', and the chance is there for winning politics should not be involved, the winner doesn't always have it all.
Don't let these essential facilities be lost forever. For the substitutes Fife Council talk about are just that, not the real thing.
Perhaps if they listened to the whole of this song, they may "feel", what the majority of the people need and want. Or better still let Cowdenbeath public, themselves, vote.
It is so obvious! To deny them this, the people, believe me we will never forget. It is not just a toilet. It is their way of life, that is being taken from them.
I know that Fife Council and others have grants and funds available which could cover these toilets and costs.
This is one subject, no matter how you may think, will not go away. And the folk of Cowdenbeath will not forget your final actions. Every week counts for all these folk. Show it is not a political competition and help those that truly need it.
