The idea of a community windfarm in the Cowdenbeath-Lochgelly area is something that should be welcomed and interest a lot of people.
The site of the former opencast site at Keirsbeath is a good one as it has plenty of wind and is not surrounded by housing.
But the key thing for me is that people living in the surrounding communities can get involved in the project.
Alright you might have you have a few quid available to invest in it but the thing is that you can be right in the thick of things.
Crossgates, Hill of Beath and Halbeath are the closest communities to the site and people from all of these will be invited to get involved but the nearby settlements of Cowdenbeath, Kelty and Kingseat can also become stakeholders.
I believe that the companies proposing the scheme will be submitting plans early next year for the development of the Keirsbeath site.
That should soon speed things along and I would be very surprised if local councillors do not give the community windfarm idea their backing.
Who knows, it could be that the West Fife Community Wind Co-operative would be the first windfarm to be up and running in this area.
My view is that the people should back the scheme and help persuade our councillors to also get behind the project.
W FARM, Cowdenbeath.
