IT was a bit disconcerting to read in the paper about both Lochgelly High and Beath High schools losing their rectors.

The schools have been doing pretty well in recent years and the people at the top have to take the lead role in making this happen.

Carol Ann Penrose, at Lochgelly High, was someone who came over in the Times as a person who was determined to see the school punch above its weight and the pupils seemed to respond.

At Beath Douglas Young also was keen to ensure that it was all about improvement.

It is a fact of life that people move on but for the schools to lose their rectors at the same time is a bit unusual.

Hopefully the new rectors will be able to get the same results from the kids at Beath and Lochgelly and that progress of recent years will keep on going.

What took place in the spring when the kids from Lochgelly went on a polar expedition was pretty amazing and the results seem to have been so positive.

The schools, as your paper said, have both been on upward curves, let us hope that continues in what is a new era for both.
