THESE callers that the MSP was talking about in the article in the Times was spot-on.

The endless calls that happen weekly can indeed make lives a misery for many people.

It is easy enough to say ‘don’t answer it’ or tell them ‘you are not interested’ but often the latter method of dealing with these doesn’t work.

Well not initially because they try to keep you talking in an attempt to force you into a position that will make you consider purchasing what they are selling.

Really these calls can be very disturbing for older people especially and they could do without getting these sort of communications.

The move to fine the people that run these call centres is something that has to be welcomed.

Continued calling has to be something that bosses should be fined for. These cold calls can be something that can upset so many people and with the UK Government agreeing that directors of call companies can be fined in certain circumstances that could maybe see a more responsible line from these outfits.

The companies are liable to fines if they step out of line but by bringing the people who run these organisations into the firing line that will make a difference.

Their desperation to force people to buy things might be a little less if they are liable to a fine for constant calling.

There is no doubt that the MSP is right that if the UK Government had acted quicker on the requests to bring this measure in people might have been spared a percentage of these worrying calls but at least there is a way out.

Whether there is a more responsible approach from the call companies only the future will tell.
