I WAS unfortunate to suffer a stroke in January 2018 and after being taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, I was received at the Letham ward in the rehabilitation unit in Cameron Hospital, Windygates. What follows are my observations of the next six months.

I found the nursing staff to be extremely dedicated with the ability to show care and empathy towards their patients. I make a special mention to those who showed me never to give up.

All came from the university of life and gained through years of nursing in this industry.

I have two observations to make, hopefully which will be looked at to improve the life for staff and patients.

Not enough physiotherapy was received due to the fact there is only one physiotherapist to care for an average of 14 patients. This is an impossible target to achieve proper care. More physiotherapists are needed to achieve the required targets.

As for emotional therapy, I had one visit from the ward chaplain. I received one talk with hope and I thank him for taking the time to visit me and he left me his card to give to my wife, and told me not to hesitate if I needed to talk to him again. It was a well received chat with Stephen Steiner, healthcare chaplain.

Thanks to the occupational therapist, Pamela Duff, and Mary Gibson, from the Older People Care at Home team.

Well done ladies and gentlemen of Letham Ward, Cameron Hospital, and all the other staff who keep the ward functioning day-to-day.
