CAN I just say that your story on Wednesday June 6 about the vandalism in Cowdenbeath is indeed something which causes me a great deal of worry.
To say the least surely it is time that the area around the War Memorial has some sort of security mechanism, whether it be a light or CCTV.
Alex Haddow pointed out that this is the 100th year since the end of the First World War and the servicemen who lost their lives in that conflict are named on the memorial.
Now I do not know if the history of the Great War is taught in schools these days but if it was surely the young people who keep damaging the Memorial would maybe show a bit more respect.
The big problem is that the Memorial is in a quiet, secluded spot, in the Public Park and at night there is no one to bother these people who are determined to have a drink and once they are drunk they simply cause damage and noise.
If there was a light it would make a difference but I would bet that if there was CCTV it would completely stop this carry on.
Maybe the community council can press the local councillors in to trying to get to grips with this.
The problem is if nothing is done the Memorial is going to continue to be attacked.
HIGHLY CONCERNED,
Cowdenbeath.
