I AM really looking forward to the Joe Corrie exhibition which will be taking place at the Lochgelly Centre next month.
It was truly amazing how the mining industry threw up three such talented colliers as Joe, Peter Leslie and Robert McLeod.
All three of these guys, who spent a lot of time as miners, wrote some amazing poetry, songs and plays.
It was a real shame that Joe Corrie, the Cardenden wordsmith, never really got the plaudits his work deserved because of the fact that he was reflecting the political scene in the local mining communities.
In Time of Strife was a brilliant play and its political message was bound to reflect tough times in the mining communities but that did not stop it appearing on stages abroad.
It is superb that the 50th anniversary of Joe’s death is being marked with the concert and exhibition at the Lochgelly Centre at the beginning of May.
No doubt it will fully reflect the hard work Joe Corrie had in getting his plays and poetry accepted by some important theatrical people of the day and his works will be fully displayed at a place he would have fully backed had he been alive today.
CORRIER,
Cowdenbeath.
