YET again the parking situation in Lochgelly caused me frustration last week.

I am really concerned that things are getting worse and worse and ultimately there will simply be not enough space in the centre of the town.

As the houses in The Avenue get finished these will attract another few hundred people into the town.

But there has been no planning to have enough parking space to deal with the increase in number of cars that will want to park in the centre of Lochgelly.

Last Friday was a classic case. At the back of noon the spaces in Bank Street were all occupied as were the spaces behind Knockhill Close. Add to that cars were parking on the yellow lines in Bank Street and Francis Street and parking both sides of East Main Street.

There was no way a bus could have got along East Main Street.

Literally chaos and that is without the Rockgelly project opening to the public. This is bound to have people coming to it with cars but parking facilities for this are bound to be limited.

So things are going to get worse and worse and I cannot see any easy answer to it.

Improved parking hopes seemed to be centred around the new health centre planned for Francis Street but with that now on the back burner there is no way that any immediate increase in car parking provision.

So what does this all mean for car users in Lochgelly. Basically log jam unless Fife Council does something to increase the amount of spaces in the centre of the town.

Maybe what is needed is use of the green space in Francis Street to create some relief to the problem. Without that things will get worse and East Main Street is certain to become log jammed.

Let’s hope that something is done to help relieve this awful Lochgelly problem.

PARKER,

Lochgelly.
